There are two essential motives of this film. The first one is crucial and is readable from the film's motto:” We are all dead, just buried in order”.
The other is only vaguely stated, and is compromised in one character's line: ”Who was in one war, he was in them all ”.
In its essence this is truly anti-war story. The two, previously mentioned motives, perfectly fit into this purpose: they are both used to demonstrate that every war is the same , and each leaves the living dead at the end.
Or just dead.
